Author's Biography ~
Anne Sportun began experimenting with jewelry in the basement of her childhood home with her father's shop tools. She successfully delivered her first wholesale order in 1981 at the tender age of sixteen. Sportun's pieces are renown for being organic with a captivating ability to create an intimate relationship between jewelry and its wearer. She designs around a philosophy that the communication of jewelry and wearer is not bound by words, geography or ethnicity but by the universal language of shape, symbols and form.
In 1987, Anne launched her company Experimental Jewellery Works while working odd jobs to make ends meet. But fate intervened when Anne met Barbara Kelly, then a bookkeeper, became fast friends and soon began developing Experimental together. Their first retail boutique launched in Toronto in 1992 and today boasts 25 talented employees. Sportun's pieces continue to gain critical acclaim and media attention through trunk shows, trade shows, and client consultations. In 2003, Sportun was honored with having her hands represented on a Canadian postage stamp.
