Artist's Biography ~
Ayesha Mayadas lived in Calcutta, India before moving to upstate NY in her teens. Trained as a textile engineer, she began studying her passions for metals at RIT where she honed her techniques of hammering and forming. Even then, she drew her inspirations from nature, especially water and the landscape it creates. That love and eye for nature continues in her work today. After Mayadas completed her masters at RIT, she established a studio and created hammered creations with various finishes and patinas. Mayadas fell in love with jewelry during her studies at RIT and the wearable forms she could create.
Mayadas has a special affinity for combining the warmth of gold and copper and enjoys creating uniquely dazzling pieces. Her work has been well received at SOFA, The Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, The Washington Craft Show, and the Crafts at Castle in Boston. She earned the Louise Binswanger award for “Best Artist New to the Show” in 2001 in Philadelphia.
