Artist's Biography ~
George Sawyer's innovative eye for harmony, form, surface pattern and color has earned him a reputation for creating pieces with unique elegance and vibrant personality. He considers jewelry an art form and brings together graphic design, originality, technical virtuosity and an intimate relationship with wearer. He spent his first years in jewelry as a custom jewelry designer and built one-of-a-kind pieces for his customers. But his true passion lay in Japanese art and metalwork with a special affinity for the mighty sword. He began to produce his own technique of the ancient Japanese metalworking technique called Mokume Gane, despite the fact that it was relatively unknown in the United States.
Today Sawyer uses the conventional techniques of metalworking with an influence in Mokume. He combines this with his interest in color and abstract pattern with an ability to tell a story. His pieces appear to unfold in texture and detailing and you see something new every time you consider his works of art.
