Artist's Biography ~
Toronto native Jennifer Shigetomi pursued fine arts at the Ontario College of Art and Design but soon discovered she lacked an outlet for her innate technical and artistic desires. Studying wax carving for jewelry, Jennifer discovered a medium balancing fine artistry and delicate technique. She enrolled at George Brown College in Toronto before founding Matsu Jewellery with her business partner and sister, Lisa, in 1996.
Jennifer's design philosophy is perhaps best described as edgy elegance showcased with a mastery of clean lines, fluid shapes and a satin finish. The soft sculptural nature of her pieces evoke a fluid quality that seems to contradict the inherent characteristics of metal. Her pieces are both strong and whimsical with an uncanny effect of speaking to its audience on a deeply personal level. Jennifer's collection of hand wrought jewelry is crafted in sterling silver, gold and platinum.
